HOT NEWS FLASHES!

5-1-11

My new band, THE STORM CHASERS, played their first gigs out in April. It has been a long time dream and item on my "bucket list" to put together a dream team BUFFETT TRIBUTE band. Even though I have had the honor to be part of some very incredible bands in the past, and sit in with who I idolize as the very best in the parrot head business, it is still a serious HIGH to actually have a full band of top shelf musicians performing together where I am the lead front man, rather than just being back up to some greater talent than myself.

We played a big gig at the JIMMY BUFFETT concert in Tampa for the Tampa Bay Parrot Head Club on April 16th at the ASK GARY AMPHITHEATER. The day before, we played at Bob and Mary Noble's annual OUTBACK PRO-AM GOLF TOURNAMENT party in Cheval. Thanks Bob and Mary!!! By the way, Bob Noble can play a very mean set of harps himself!!!

I have a new web site under construction for the band and it's members.

The new year is already coming at me like a rocket! I have lots to accomplish and "PAY IT FORWARD" this year. I was standing under my dream airplane, "The Hemisphere Dancer", owned by Jimmy Buffett, at Universal Studio's City Walk at Margaritaville for these shots in December. I dream of getting to meet Jimmy in person before I depart planet Earth!!!

November found me in Key West for Meeting of the Minds (MOTM) again. I was sicker than a dog, but still tried to enjoy the cold front that passed through prematurely. IT WAS COLD! In the picture above Jack Mosley was cursing me because I just told him I had a cold from HELL!! Captain Josh and Steve could care less.....

I added a new great musician to my circle of friends, RICK McCALL! Rick is what I categorize as a lead bass player. He is awesome! He can play either lead guitar or bass, or even lead on a bass guitar. What a talented asset he is!

WOW! Jimmy Buffett put on a live concert on Gulf Shores Alabama's beach last night , just down the street from Lulu's.... Will Kimbrough, who I played with a week before, was on stage with the Coral Reefer band for the entire concert, and was absolutely killer! This concert was aired on CMT live throughout the entire world!!! Will sang and was featured with his own song, "NOBODY". The purpose of the concert was to promote the Gulf Coast as being "OPEN FOR BUSINESS".

Friday night I had the pleasure and honor of a life time. I wound up on stage at the Naples PHC "Red, White & Tunes" event with John Friday, Mike "Crawdaddy" Crowly, and the famous and world known song writer/musician, Will Kimbrough! We had a couple hour jam session that was so cool. At the time it had not dawned on me how famous Will Kimbrough was! Jeeeze, how did I get on stage with these guys???? I was just lucky I guess, and they were not paying attention or cared who joined in with them? Will Kimbrough is known for writing many songs of which Buffettt has a few recorded, such as "WINGS", and "NOBODY". What a thrill to play on stage with and meet this man!!! If anyone has pictures of this event, I would greatly appreciate their passing them along to me. I did see cameras flashing that night!

I also had the thrill of a re-union with my old friend Mexico Mark Mulligan. Mark and I did several shows for Radio Margaritaville years ago! I love you Mark!!!! Old friends are the best friends!

Saturday I performed with the CARIBBEAN CHILLERS at the annual PALM HARBOR PARROT PARTY. The crowd was a big as it could get!! Jason Webb did an outsatnding job leading the band, and we had a great show from 6-10PM!!

3-17-10

St.Patrick's Day brought together a great crowd at the Tampa Bay Parrot Head Club meeting at Gasoline Alley in Clearwater Florida. I really enjoy playing for people who know that dancing and a conga line beats sitting on the couch at home watching the same old boring TV shows!! The TBPHC crowd really knows how to have fun!!!

New friendships and Jimmy Buffett concerts rocked this week! Thursday night in Orlando at the AmWay Arena, my good friend Captain Josh was playing outside at a tailgate party and was video'd while playing. Later that evening during the Jimmy Buffett concert, Josh was featured on the huge JUMBTRON TV's while Jimmy was playing. CONGRATS CAPRAIN JOSH!!!! You are famous!!!

On Saturday in Sunrise Florida, I played a while at the tailgate party and met a really outstanding musician named "CAPTAIN MORGAN". This dude can sing!!! I also met a super local entertainer named "JUST DON". Even though the weather was bad, the Buffett concert was incredible. My real shock was when I looked up and saw myself playing and singing on the huge JUMBOTRON TV's right during the middle of the concert while Buffett was playing on stage!! I though I had died and gone to heaven. I never thought I would ever be as lucky as Captain Josh was 2 days before in Orlando. THANKS JIMMY FOR MAKING MY YEAR/LIFE????

2-1-10

The new year 2010 has started off with a bang! January is normally a pretty dead month for musicians, but I wound up with 16 gigs in Land O' Lakes Florida. I have never played so much in one month at one place in my whole life. I can remember years gone by where I played for 6 days straight at MOTM in Key West Florida, but I would always slow down after that. I had a blast playing at the Caliente Resort! Thank you Caliente Resort!! I also want to thank the Central Florida Parrot Head Club for having me come back and play for their January phlocking!!

Wow! Friday night in Orlando was a real blast. The Central Florida Parrot Head Club had their monthly phlocking and I would like to thank all of those party animals who showed up for the fun!! Also, I want to thank Jimi Pappas for sitting in and adding his excellent lead guitar and vocals too!

I just had a very exciting experience Saturday night. I was over at Universal Studios City Walk in Orlando at the Margaritaville, listening to Captain Josh and Steven Youngblood play for the Florida Parrot Head meeting, when Captain Josh lost his senses and asked me if I wanted to sing a couple of songs. I bet he never does that again!!! I took him up on the offer. To me, that was a big deal to sing a couple of Buffett songs in Jimmy Buffett's own bar, under the nose of his sea plane, the "Hemispshere Dancer", with so many folks passing by and listening. Thanks Josh!!!! I will never forget the moment!! We live for brief moments, and that was one of mine!!!

What is funny is that I have never actually met Jimmy Buffett, even though I did so many shows that were on his radio station, Radio Margaritaville, and have been at MOTM somewhere in Key West when he snuck in and out. My good friend Bob Karwin wrote a song to the same effect titled "Never Met The Man". Some day I hope to meet him in person! We have a lot in common. I have had the pleasure of meeting most of his band, the "Coral Reefers", and have played on stage with at least one of them. Oh well, dream on Gordon!!

Looks like 2009 is going to be a year of challenge and new directions. One of the exciting new directions I am going in is with a brand new band known as the STORM CHASERS. The new band is made up of some very accomplished professional musicians from the State of Florida that I have known or played with over the last 15 years or so. My sister Carol and her husband Jon, are 2 of the new members, who actually have another band known as DBAND. They will play with the STORM CHASERS when they are not busy with their own gigs. The STORM CHASERS can be booked with 3-8 pieces, depending on venue requirements.

Well, after having made web sites for the last 9 years for musicians too numerous to count, I finally got around to updating my own web site! It really needed to be made a little easier to navigate. I hope you like it better!

2007 was really one very exciting year for me. Playing with the Caribbean Chillers, and Jason Webb, from Key West to South Bend Indiana, and then solo in Southern California and back a few times, was really quite a busy year, to put it mildly!

2008 is shaping up to be another very busy year. I have plans to actually finish and release my first CD this year. I have only been working on it for over the last 5 years or so. I have actually lost track of when I started on the very first song. You don't really know how bad you can sound until you get to hear your own voice in a raw studio mix. The up side of being your own worst critic is that you realize that you DO NOT WANT TO RELEASE A CD until you have cleaned up and fixed all the vocal issues. This meant I had/have to spend some serious time practicing and listening and re-recording every single vocal track time after time. Some tracks still aren't right, but I hope to make major progress this year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
